UMS: We avoid unnecessary losses#Bulkcargotransport PolandGermany

Updated: Dec 4, 2024

When organizing the transportation of goods, especially in cross-border multimodal and intermodal transport, the level of safety of goods and control over each stage of transportation are of great importance. As practice shows, there are many factors that directly or indirectly affect the risk of loss. Given this situation, we do everything in our power to minimize the client's costs and losses .

What does this mean in practice, because our specialization is #multimodal cross-border rail transportation, Bulkcargotransport PolandGermany#bulk cargo transportation in the EU,#international sea container transportation, #bulk cargo transportation between Ukraine and Poland, and in particular #directrailservice Tarnopol - Port of Gdansk? In our case, this means relying on old partnerships and constantly searching for new solutions and opportunities, using the best in a particular case.

As we approach our field of multimodal logistics , this means reduced risk, maximum cargo security, as well as speed and efficiency.

Are there any solutions that will best bring us closer to this goal? Yes. One of these solutions is a new approach and a non-standard vision.

One of these decisions made by UMS was the selection of K1412 containers for the transport of bulk cargo . Today we will tell you about the significant advantages that this solution offers our customers.

A little behind the scenes. Let's talk about the necessary and seemingly inevitable losses that every load suffers during multimodal transport.

Every time a train is restarted, there is a risk of damage or loss. Despite all precautions, such risks always exist. For example, let's take bulk cargo transported in the traditional way, that is, in open box wagons. The weaknesses of this method are obvious. The influence of precipitation and weather, mechanical stress and weather conditions lead to transport damage. Even overloading when moving from broad gauge to narrow gauge (and vice versa) during loading leads to small but still significant cargo losses. In this case, it is also worth considering the time required for such reloading

In addition, other circumstances ( we all remember cases when contents spilled from ordinary containers during strikes ) and other factors reduce the safety of the cargo and increase the risk of loss . In addition, the risk of delays and damage to the cargo increases, which is generally unacceptable, especially when transporting higher value cargo .

How to avoid wasted time and additional costs?

The containers that UMS has been using since 2024 are an additional solution for us and our customers, ensuring cargo security and delivery speed. Why does this happen?

1. By using K1412 containers , there is no need to reload from wagon to wagon when changing tracks. Only the containers are regrouped. Practice shows that in our case the reloading time of the trains is reduced from 36 hours to 5-7 hours (a sevenfold increase in speed).

2. When transshipping a container in a port for subsequent transportation by sea, the cargo from the container can be unloaded directly onto the ship, bypassing the warehouse, which saves time and resources: there is no need for additional storage of the cargo in the port.

3. 3. Cargo securing: Bulk cargo is often transported in gondola wagons, which has a negative impact on their safety: weather conditions, mechanical damage to the cargo, losses during transfer from wagon to wagon. That is why we have chosen a different method of loading and use our closed containers with the Top Loading-Bottom Unloading system. In addition, the absence of side doors also facilitates cargo maintenance (big bags and liner bags are not required to ensure the safety of the container).

Thus, the use of K1412 containers allows the transportation of all bulk cargoes (both grain cargo and technical cargo: titanium ore, ilmenite ore, graphite, ore concentrates) with maximum safety and speed. The transportation scheme we propose ensures full safety of the cargo during door-to-door transportation.

We are constantly striving to improve our services and are open to new challenges. If you have any questions about transport, please contact us and perhaps our cooperation will become a new level of development and optimization for all those involved in the process.
